inestetismi della cellulite

What is it?

Fat cells (adipocytes) in the subcutaneous tissue, act as an energy reserve for the body.

When you have stasis of the venous circulation, adipocytes accumulate compressing the capillaries and the plasma produced, by infiltrating between cells, over the time it causes inflammation in adipose tissue: the capillaries are compressed and the drainage of excess fluid becomes more difficult.

This mechanism sets off cellulitis.

To treat cellulite, it is’ important to recognize the stages, in order to intervene in the right way.

STAGE 1 – The skin appears swollen (edema) and you have the perception of heaviness in the limbs though the skin is taut and supple. It’s caused by an accumulation of fluid inside the adipose tissue and is very complex to recognize. This stage is also called water retention.

STAGE 2 – The epidermis gets a dull color, when compressed between the fingers it gets red and assume the so-called appearance of “orange peel”. Often also occurs  dilated capillaries with a  branching shape. Those  are all symptoms of poor oxygenation, vascular fragility and difficulty in expelling fat.

STAGE 3/4 – The skin surface is no longer homogeneous and smooth, it is cool to the touch due to circulatory insufficiency, it is painful when touched even with modest pressure, if compressed with your fingers leaves a depression for a few seconds.

What can it depend on?

The causes of cellulitis can depend on by genetic factorshormonal, and especially the quality of life:

  • Improper diet (eg, hyper caloric, high in salt or fat, etc. ..)
  • Vascular problems
  • Menstrual cycle and pregnancy (because they increase estrogen which causes water retention and circulation problems)
  • Sedentary lifestyle and lack of physical activity or sport
  • Incorrect posture and sitting for many hours or standing in the same position
  • Overweight
  • Wear close-fitting that compresses the vessels
  • Tight shoes with high heels or impeding the venous and lymphatic return
  • Stress
  • Smoking and Alcohol
  • Poor water intake
